Camera inspection questions

The short answer

Start with what the inspection actually covered: which access point the camera entered from, which direction it travelled, how far it reached, what stopped it, and which parts of the line were never seen at all. A finding only ever applies to the length that was looked at.

Whether the line was cleaned first changes what the camera was able to see, which is why the question belongs before the findings are discussed rather than after. Cleaning on its own establishes nothing about the structure of the pipe.

Then ask what each finding rests on: the distance or timestamp at which it appears, which statements are observations and which are recommendations, what limited the view and where, and what else could account for what was on the screen. Ask for the complete original recording as a file while you are still in the conversation.

What was inspected

• Was the line cleaned before or during the inspection?
• Which access point did the camera enter from?
• Which direction did it travel?
• How far did it reach, and what stopped it?
• Which parts of the line were not inspected?

How it was recorded

• Is the date shown on the recording?
• Are distance readings displayed, and what are they measured from?
• Do I get the full traversal or selected clips?

What the findings rest on

• At what distance or timestamp does each stated condition appear?
• Which statements are observations and which are recommendations?
• What limited what you could see, and where?
• What else could account for what you saw?
• What further evidence would change your recommendation?

What you get to keep

• Can I have the complete original recording as a file?
• Will I get your findings in writing?
• Will the line be located above ground as well?
