About SewerOwner
SewerOwner is a free decision-support platform for homeowners dealing with a private sewer lateral: a backup, a recurring blockage, an inspection result nobody has explained, or a proposal for work costing more than most household repairs.
It is not a contractor, a plumber, an inspector, an engineer, or an attorney. It does not perform work, sell repairs, rank companies, or run a contractor network. Nothing here is professional advice about your property, and no page will tell you what is wrong with your line.
What it does is narrower and more useful: help you work out which question you are actually facing, what your evidence does and does not establish, and what to ask before you authorise anything. This page sets out how that is meant to be paid for, because it changes how you should read the rest.

Who this is for
Homeowners facing a sewer decision they did not plan for and cannot easily verify: a backup, a recurring blockage, an inspection result, a proposal for work costing more than most household repairs, or a letter from an authority.
It is not written for contractors, and it is not written to generate traffic on sewer terminology.
How SewerOwner intends to make money
The intended model is contractor introductions: a homeowner who has organised their situation asks to be put in touch, and a contractor pays for an introduction that arrives with real context attached rather than a name and a phone number.
That model only works if the introduction is genuinely better than a form fill, which means the homeowner has to get value first. It is also why this site does not rank contractors — a ranking would be an advertisement, and it would make every other page on the site less trustworthy.
No contractor network exists yet. Nothing on this site is currently monetised, and no contractor receives anything you enter — there is no intake endpoint for one to receive it through. A help request is different: it goes to a person at SewerOwner, who reads it and replies by email.
What that means for what you read here
A platform paid for introductions has an obvious incentive to make every situation sound urgent and every line sound broken. The guardrails against that are structural rather than editorial: there is no scoring anywhere in the codebase, observations are stored separately from findings, and the build fails if a page states a cause, a responsibility boundary, or a local rule that no verified source supports.
