Inspections and evidence

An inspection is how anything specific about a buried line becomes known. It is also where most of the confusion enters: a camera recording is a record of what a lens saw from where it was, and that is a much narrower thing than "the condition of the line".

SewerOwner is independent of everyone who performs or sells inspections. These pages exist so you can tell a useful inspection from a sales visit with a camera, and know what you are entitled to walk away holding.

If you already have footage or a report, the camera review tool walks you through what it does and does not establish. If you are still booking one, start with what to insist on receiving — that is the part almost impossible to obtain afterwards.
