Point-of-sale requirements
This is exactly the kind of question a website should not answer confidently. Requirements of this sort exist in some places and not others, are set at municipal or authority level, change over time, and carry timing constraints that make a wrong answer expensive.
SewerOwner has not verified the position for any jurisdiction, and does not guess. What follows is how to establish it for yours.
What this page cannot establish
- SewerOwner does not know whether any requirement applies in your jurisdiction and does not guess
- a requirement in one municipality says nothing about a neighbouring one
- requirements change, and one confirmed previously may no longer apply
- SewerOwner cannot tell you whether you satisfy a requirement
What to ask, and who to ask
Direct these to the municipality or the sewer operating authority for the property address — not to a neighbouring one, and not to a general county office unless it turns out to be the right body.
- Does this jurisdiction impose any sewer lateral requirement at the point of sale or transfer?
- If so, what exactly does it require — an inspection, a certification, a repair, or a recorded document?
- What is the timing relative to closing?
- What evidence satisfies it, and who may perform it?
- Is there a fee, and who pays it?
- Is the requirement published in writing, and where?
- When was the current version adopted?
What would change the answer
- the operating authority’s or municipality’s current published requirement, if any
- the timing the requirement imposes relative to closing
- what evidence the authority accepts as satisfying it
What to do next
If a requirement exists it usually has a timing constraint, and discovering it late is what causes closings to move.
Ask the authority directly, earlyIf your situation is different
